Many Delhi hotels arrange for a taxi pick-up at the International airport.

Alternatively, catching a taxi from the International airport is cheaper and easy to arrange. Book your taxi through the PRE-PAID GOVERNMENT TAXI SERVICE, which you will find within the terminal building. The government regulated price is approx 400 rupees.

Travel from Delhi to Kullu
There are 3 options for travel from Delhi to Kullu

1. Travel by Plane
Airlines are not open for booking at this time, but you can book in advance through my travel agent, Anil Sharma (contact details below) and as soon as the flights open he will contact you via email requesting your confirmation.

There are currently 2 airlines operating between Delhi and Kullu

Kingfisher: Daily flights (approx 80-150 Euro)
Air India: Flies only Wednesday and Friday (approx 60 Euro)
Duration of the flight is (approx) one hour
Departure time from Delhi is usually 06-50 a.m. for the Kingfisher flight, 09.00 for Air India, but exact times will be confirmed when the flight schedule is annouced

You can not book or pay for your domestic flight to Kullu on line from outside of India. You can use your own travel agent, or alternately you can book a ticket through my travel agent in India, via email. He is honest, very reliable and has the best prices. When the bookings open he will find the best option for the all the seminar participants (see his contact details below).

The flight from Delhi to Kullu has breath-taking views of the Himalayas, but PLEASE NOTE that due to unpredictable weather in the mountains, flights to Kullu can be cancelled. I advise that you book your flight to Kullu 11/04/2012 ( the day before registration day 12/04/12) so that if the flight is cancelled, you will then have enough time for alternative travel (see below).

For those who book their flight with Anil Sharma from Matkon Travels: Upon arrival at your hotel in Delhi, please call Anil to give him your contact phone number in Delhi, so that IF the airline changes their flight schedule, he can inform you. The flight in April is usually reliable, we are only taking precautions so that you don’t miss your flight. There is no need to give Anil your phone contact if you are staying in transit at Delhi airport.

IF YOUR FLIGHT IS CANCELLED you should get a FULL refund by the airline BEFORE leaving the domestic airport. Then I suggest you get the next available flight to Chandigarh (a direct flight if possible as some flights do a detour via Mumbai). Then phone Avtar travels taxi service in Chandigarh (contact details below) to arrange a pick-up at the airport and you will be driven to Naggar (cost approx 7500 rupees for a 5-7 seater car, so share the cost with other seminar participants from your cancelled flight).

2. Travel by train to the foot hills and be driven by car through the mountains to Naggar
The Kalka Shatabdi train leaves Delhi from the New Delhi Railway station in Paharganj (not the Central Railway Station). There are 2 Kalka Shatabdi trains scheduled daily between Delhi and Chandigarh.

From the Chandigarh train station you will be driven to Naggar (approx 8 hours) through the beautiful Himalayas.

The first 3 hours of the drive is not as picturesque as the latter half of the journey, so you may prefer to take the train to Chadigarh the day before and drive to Naggar, leaving early the next morning, so that you will drive through the beautiful Kullu Valley in the daylight.
A place I suggest for a lunch stop is the Lake View Hotel in Bilaspur, 86 km from Chandigarh (the driver will know it). From Bilaspur onwards it is a very interesting drive, especially beautiful is driving through the narrow gorge after Mandi, that leads into the Kullu Valley.

3. Travel to Naggar by bus
Himachal Tourism (HPTDC - Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. www.hptdc.nic.in offers a good Volvo bus service on the Delhi - Manali route (approx 1000 rupees).

The bus departs from Chandralok Building 36, Janpath New Delhi at approx 18.00hrs. The bus has comfortable reclining seats. It is a 14 -15 hour drive to Naggar, with several stops along the way, arriving in Naggar around 09.00. You must tell the bus driver that you are going to Naggar (which is 30 minutes south of the buses final destination, Manali) and they will let you down at the small town of Patlikuhal, from where you get a taxi for 100 rupees to drive you 15 minutes up the mountain to Naggar.

PLEASE NOTE:

It is best to book a Himachal Tourism bus, as it is a government service and more reliable than the private companies. Swagatam is the only other private company I would recommend. You can book your bus seat with my travel agent Anil Sharma (contact details below).

Book the Volvo AC (air conditioned) deluxe bus. They will say all buses are deluxe, but the Volvo buses are the best and much quicker.
